Let’s face it. One can’t think of the perfect wedding without thinking of the perfect wedding song. Whether it be contemporary, classic, or somewhere in between, the more popular wedding songs evoke a feeling of undying love, celebration, and romance. Modern weddings are partial to modern music performed by the likes of Bruno Mars, John Legend, Adele, Keith Urban and even Walk The Moon, but they don’t completely forget the past. One out of every 13 songs on the top 1,000 wedding hits was performed by one of the following artists: Michael Jackson, Queen, Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Elvis, Otis Redding, the Beach Boys or the Beatles. The list runs the gamut from 1950, when Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong recorded “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” to Ed Sheeran’s relatively new release “Perfect”. From the Bridal Processional to the First Dance there are ample opportunities to infuse music into your special day. Maybe you need a little help narrowing down the options though. Consider these top choices from members of the River Landing team.

Andrew M. Odom, Custom Home Program Manager

  • SONG: “Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker (w/ Jennifer Warnes)

  • REASON: Who can resist that line “There are mountains in our way / but we climb a step every day”? This song made An Officer and A Gentleman what it was and really cemented the relationship between Richard Gere and Debra Winger in the film.

Stephanie Durner, Director of Community Management

  • SONG: “Here and Now” by Luther Vandross.

  • REASON:  It was [our] first dance song, and it still brings back the feelings of that day every time I hear it.

Melinda Bond, POA Coordinator

  • SONG: “Stuck On You” by Lionel Richie (featuring Darius Rucker).

  • REASON: I really love everything about it: the beat, the words, the performance!

Carrie Bromelle, Sales Manager

  • SONG: “When I Fall In Love” as recorded by Celine Dion

  • REASON: This was my wedding theme (the Fall season) and the song was the first I danced to with my husband on our special day as our guests tossed leaves at us.

Tabatha Walsh, Director of Sales

  • SONG: “Always and Forever” as recorded by Luther Vandross

  • REASON: It represents true love to me; long-lasting and full of soul. And there is something about soulful music that makes me believe every word of it.
