Hope For The Warriors 2021

August 27, 2021

For the past 12 years, River Landing has joined forces with Hope for the Warriors to host an annual fundraising event featuring a block party at Mad Boar Restaurant & Pub, a golf tournament, and more in support of servicemen and women, veterans, and their families. We are proud of the partnership we have built to support this worthy cause, and many of our members and residents have played a part in its ongoing success. Different from years past, we had the honor of hosting the all-new Summer Soirée featuring the 10th Annual Hope & Courage Awards and a once-in-a-lifetime performance by country superstar Lee Greenwood!

The festivities began on Saturday, August 14 at Mad Boar with a chance for guests to get a picture and an autograph by the Golf Invitational co-hosts and MLB legends, Doug Flynn and Johnny Bench. Entertainment was provided by the ever-popular Johnson Boys. Towards the end of the night, they were joined on-stage by a varying group of celebrities including singer/songwriter Dillon Dixon, singer Rick Seratte, former HTGV Host Kelly Edge, actress Paula Trickey, and more. There was also an auction held during the evening of a sectional painting that infused the camouflages of four Armed Forces branches with the face of a mighty lion. The piece was sold for $1,500 to kick off the fundraising events.

The following evening – August 15 – the ballroom at the Clubhouse was filled with retired servicemen and women, veterans, celebrities, and River Landing members and residents. It was an incredible night punctuated by outstanding food prepared by River Landing’s own banquet staff, top-notch entertainment by The Mango Band, and award presentations emceed by Bench and Flynn. Guests were treated to a very special, intimate concert by Grammy award-winning artist Lee Greenwood including a performance of his anthem ‘God Bless the U.S.A.’

The six very special awards presented during the evening were the

  • Vigiano Family Hope & Courage Awards presented to Capt Ryan Voltin (USMC), SSG Robert Dove (USA), and Dawn Cash-Salau (Gold Star Wife)
  • Harry Bridgwood Lifetime Service Award presented to George MacClary
  • Chairman’s Award for Corporate Citizenship presented to Casey’s convenience stores
  • Gary Sinise Community Service Award presented to Tish Stropes of the Fisher House Foundation.

Monday morning began with a beautiful sunrise and the presentation of colors as well as the Star Spangled Banner performed by Lee Greenwood. By 9am twenty-seven teams were leaving out to start 18 holes of Captain’s Choice golf on the Landing course. By 4pm most teams had returned with their scores and were treated to a delicious American Grill buffet and ice cream bar provided by Highway 55 of Wallace.  Soon after awards were presented to the top-placing teams as follows:  3rd place – Dominion Energy, 2nd place – Hwy. 55, and 1st place – Marine Federal.

Later that night the crowd moved back to the Mad Boar for karaoke with Jason Jackson Live. What a blast! Celebrities, serious golfers, River Landing residents, and friends all took to the microphone to belt out their favorite “go-to” karaoke classics.

We are already anticipating the event next year and are so thankful to the Hope team, River Landing staff, volunteers, and sponsors who make this event so special each year.
