Every golfer has different strengths and weaknesses on the golf course. Some golfers naturally hit a draw and others naturally have a slight fade. Most golf courses have holes that play to different strengths. For example, right handed golfers who hit a draw will have more success on dog leg left holes or holes that curve to the left. How To Tell If You Hit A Fade Or A Draw In Golf
Identifying a tendency to draw or fade a golf ball is easy to do once you understand the terminology. First let’s talk about right handed golfers. When a right handed golfer hits a draw the ball starts to the right then at the apex of its flight starts to work its way back to the left. The flight path should look like a rainbow that is leaning to the golfer’s right. A fade on the other hand is when the ball starts on the left but starts to work its way back to the right. The flight path of a fade should look like a rainbow that is leaning to the golfer’s left.
For a left handed golfer everything is flipped. When a left handed golfer hits a draw the ball starts to the left and works its way back to the right. A left handed fade starts to the right then works its way back to the left. When you talk about hitting a fade it is important to not confuse it with a slice. A slice is a fade that has also been pushed. This means that the ball starts straight, then curves to the right for right handed golfers or to the left for left handed golfers.
A slice is typically a golfer’s worst nightmare but on some golf courses it can work out quite well.

While the word “slice” is one of the most hated words in the game of golf, a slice can actually be the right play on certain holes. Some golf courses have been designed with holes where a slice is the best move. If you are right handed and often slice or fade the ball, playing a golf course that has a lot of dog leg right holes will suit you best. On the flip side, a golf course with a lot of dog leg left holes will be better suited for left handed golfers who hit a slice or a fade.
