Wedding Wednesday: Songs for Your Wedding Morning

July 19, 2017

All of the planning is done, the tables are set up, the rehearsal dinner is finished.  Now, all that is left between you and walking down the aisle is a morning of fun and memories with your bridesmaids.  You’ll want some tunes to get ready to that will enhance the day.  So, we’ve complied some of our favorite songs for your wedding morning.

1. Natalie Cole – This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)

There is no better way to start your day off than to the sound of Cole’s voice, those trumpets, and the lyrics invoking thoughts of the years of happiness the lie ahead. If this song doesn’t get your blood pumping and your heart thumping, we don’t know what will.

2.  Ed Sheeran – Perfect

Let’s face it…it doesn’t get any better than Ed Sheeran when it comes to recent popular radio and love songs.  This song off of his latest album is the PERFECT (pardon the pun) song to get you in the mood for that upcoming first dance after the ceremony.

3.  The Jeff Healey Band – Angel Eyes

I don’t know what makes us love this song more:  the lyrics or the story behind it.  Healey was adopted as a baby and when he was one year old, he lost his sight due to retinoblastoma.  The doctors were forced to remove his eyes and install prostheses due to the cancer.  Needless to say, this beautiful song, full of references to a sight he would never truly experience himself, is enough to give everyone in the room chills (and a neat piece of trivia for you to tell them about too).

4. Otis Redding – That’s How Strong My Love Is

Smooth like butter, Redding’s voice evokes love all on its own.  But with lyrics like “I’ll be the ocean so deep and wide / And catch all the tears whenever you cry.” this classic Motown hit will send chills down your spine, especially when he hits those falsettos in the hook.

5. Striking Matches – When the Right One Comes Along

This is a love song that is all about being real.  Let’s face it, from a young age we’ve been taught by the movies that when you find “the one” there will likely be fireworks, orchestras spontaneously playing, and birds chirping all around you.  But let’s be honest–that’s not how it happens.  And this duo expresses that sentiment perfectly and beautifully.

6.  Beyoncé – Love On Top

A little Queen B to get your girls singing at the top of your lungs never hurts.  And this bop will have you all straining to reach those high notes and laughing about not being able to (seriously, how did she sing it live all while dancing and pregnant at the VMAs?).

7. Rihanna ft. Jay-Z – Umbrella

No, this isn’t your normal, gushy love song.  But it’s one for you and your girls.  Let’s face it, they’ve been there for you–some of them longer than any boy ever has.  This song is a solid way to express your love for them standing next to you on the biggest day of your life.

8.  John Mayer – XO

Admittedly, we’re not always head over heels when it comes to covers of great songs.  However, Mayer’s take on Beyoncé’s song from her self-titled album gets us all in our feels.  But then again, when does John Mayer not get everyone in their feels?

9. Mumford & Sons – Not with Haste

Mumford and Sons may have single-handedly catapulted the hipster phenomenon in America, but for this song alone we will forgive them.  With lyrics like “I will love with urgency but not with haste” and “We will run and scream |  You will dance with me  | They’ll fulfill our dreams |  And we’ll be free” and references to Revelation 21:4,  it’s the perfect wedding day hit.

10. B-52s – Love Shack

Tin roof……..RUSTED!  We dare you to not sing along to this song whenever it is played.  No, it’s not necessarily romantic, but it will get you hyped for a night full of fun at your reception.
