Ardis & David Stott: We’re Loving Sundays Again

Ardis and David Stott have spent a lifetime traveling the world, but they’ve found their own personal heaven on earth right here at River Landing.

Having moved an estimated 51 times throughout their 37 year career with the federal government, the Stotts retired to Wallace, NC in 2016.  The pair first heard about our community while attending trade shows in their quest to find the perfect place to call “home”—a search they had narrowed down to “anywhere from the New York to Florida coastline or Arizona.”

“River Landing kept appearing on every list of our ‘must haves’ retirement requirements,” the couple said recalling their research.  “We were confident that the River Landing community would help us meet our desire to escape the stress inducing traffic of the northern Virginia and Washington, D. C. beltway, and curtail our gypsy-like lifestyle, while enhancing our desire to travel and explore on our own terms.”

The Stotts live an active lifestyle revolving around their travels and motorcycles, and the twosome are currently enjoying getting to know the coastal plains through restaurant explorations. While they have lived abroad throughout most of their marriage due to time spent working for U.S. Embassies throughout Europe and Africa, they originally hail from Dunn Loring in northern Virginia.

They now consider their new abode their “staycation” home.  They brag that coming home to River Landing is refreshing due to the spectacular views. “Most importantly, our new home has helped us love Sundays again,” say the Stotts, recalling a time when the day used to be filled with dread as they prepared for the hectic work-week ahead.  “The beauty of our River Landing empty nest, is that it has mellowed us out considerably  and, we believe, added years to our greatly improved quality of life.”
